FLUFFIES!
Fluffies !
Of course we have fluffies, everywhere has fluffies, but they are not always apparent or easy to find. Finding some of our fluffies is a constant mission for KarameaWild, but without disturbing them or their parents. There have been a few successes, share here. Every Spring is a new chance to find some more!
Plovers, Spur winged plover
Bandits, banded dotterels
Our little Banded Dotterels are so special, to New Zealand, and Karamea is so incredibly lucky to have them here... and to have Dotterel chicks is a special privilege. Not every year, but most years I observe 3-4 chick batches (usually just 1 sometimes 2) in the district, some years half a dozen or more. It's an incredible achievement for these tiny birds to get these little dots to survive into adulthood.
Fantails, Piwakawaka
Piwakawaka, our Fantails, are the most adorable of our little birds. They don't feature too often on Karamea Wild because of their terribly flitty habits and their ability to draw you into battery wasting sessions of near-shots of mammoth proportions. However, the excitement and pure joy of the juvenile Fantails are irresistible, just a few examples here;
